Kubarcy Joins Spanish Squad as Replacement for Injured Torres
Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente called up Barcelona’s young defender Pau Kubarcy on Wednesday to replace the injured Pau Torres for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Denmark and Switzerland.
Torres, Aston Villa’s defender, joined the “La Roja” camp in Madrid with some muscular discomfort, according to the Spanish Football Federation.
At just 17, Kubarcy has established himself as a starter for Barcelona, the current La Liga leader, though he’s only played four matches for Spain and wasn’t part of the Euro 2024-winning squad.
Spain, which topped Group A4 with 10 points, will face second-place Denmark with 7 points in Copenhagen on Friday, and then host last-place Switzerland on Monday.
