Minister of Agriculture Announces the Planting of 39 Million Feddans for the Summer Season
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Dr. Abubakr Omar Al-Bushra, revealed that 39 million feddans were planted during the summer season.
He attributed the success of the agricultural season to unprecedented rainfall rates and the excellent distribution of rain.
He said, “We were able to plant 17 million feddans of maize and millet, which are the staple food for the people of Sudan, to dispel the myth of famine.”
The minister confirmed that, for the first time in decades, the country did not experience any major pest outbreaks, such as locusts, birds, or rats, except for a small amount.
He added, “We do not claim that we succeeded in planting all these areas, but we are certain that God was with us and supported this long-suffering people by sending rain.”
