The Minister of Finance Hopes to Attract German Support for the Sudanese People

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
The Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, criticized the international community for failing to help Sudan overcome its current crisis.
During his meeting on Monday with the German Ambassador to Sudan, Mr. Thomas Tröstig, at the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim emphasized that the government’s efforts to support citizens have not received any backing from the international community. Instead, international assistance has been limited to humanitarian aid in health and education sectors, which, even in its limited form, is only delivered through third parties such as UN organizations.
The minister highlighted the high transportation costs of humanitarian aid via the Adré corridor and the insistence on using this route, controlled by the rebel militia, rather than other accessible corridors. He suggested that it would be more appropriate to close this route unless the government can monitor it.
Dr. Ibrahim reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the impacts of war on citizens and infrastructure. He provided a detailed explanation of the war’s consequences on unarmed civilians, the country’s resources, and the destruction of infrastructure, which has halted production.
The minister expressed hope that Germany would mobilize the international community to provide support to the Sudanese people and participate in rebuilding the damage caused by the war.
For his part, the German Ambassador affirmed his interest in strengthening cooperation between the two countries and helping Sudan achieve peace through negotiations. He also stressed his commitment to addressing the war’s impact on civilians and supporting Sudan’s political progress.
