Kremlin: U.S. Allowing Strikes Deep Inside Russia Escalates Conflict
The announcement of the U.S. lifting restrictions that previously prevented Kyiv from using Western long-range missiles to target deep within Russia has sparked pessimistic expectations regarding scenarios for the conflict’s development in Ukraine.
The Kremlin spoke of “a new qualitative phase in the conflict that reflects direct Western involvement in military operations.” Meanwhile, Russian circles viewed President Joe Biden’s administration as trying to create obstacles to any swift measures that President-elect Donald Trump might take upon officially taking office in January.
Following this U.S. development, pressure has increased on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government in its final weeks, regarding support for Ukraine. Its refusal to deliver German-made Taurus long-range missiles to Kyiv could lead to an expansion of the war and drag NATO into it.
