Formula 1: Piastri Aims for Victory in Las Vegas as Norris’ Chances Fade

Australian driver Oscar Piastri is aiming to win the Las Vegas Grand Prix after the title hopes of his McLaren teammate Lando Norris have diminished.
According to Reuters, Norris is the main competitor to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who is set to clinch his fourth consecutive championship this weekend. While Piastri has recently played a supportive role in the competition, focus has now shifted to the Constructors’ Championship, where McLaren leads Ferrari by 36 points with three races remaining.
Speaking to reporters in Las Vegas, Piastri said:
“There are still very specific scenarios where the team might need my help. But for the most part, things are back to normal.”
He continued:
“The Drivers’ Championship battle is very slim, but the Constructors’ Championship is still on for us. There are only a few situations where I might be able to assist if asked, but I’m entering the race trying to win.”
Piastri has already secured two victories this season, in Hungary and Azerbaijan.
Separately, Norris told reporters:
“The team has always come first, and that won’t change.”
He elaborated:
“All we’ve done is swap positions. I’ve benefited from it because I was in the title hunt, and that’s the game we have to play—just as I helped Oscar on several occasions, like when he won in Baku. I did my part there.”
Norris added:
“Team principal Andrea Stella has been clear from the start that we won’t do anything to hurt the team’s outcome. So no, nothing will change.”
