Iraq: Foiling ISIS Plot Targeting Security Figures and Government Sites in Kirkuk
The Iraqi National Security Service announced on Saturday that it thwarted a “dangerous terrorist plot” in Kirkuk Province that aimed to target security figures and government sites, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency.
The service stated that it apprehended the “Emir of Kurdistan Sector” in the ISIS organization, and that the total number of those arrested in Kirkuk Province has reached “50 terrorists, all of whom received various judicial sentences.”
Earlier today, the Security Media Cell announced the killing of five ISIS members in Kirkuk in an airstrike by Iraqi forces yesterday.
The statement added: “F-16 aircraft targeted a terrorist hideout in Wadi Zaitoun within the Kirkuk operations sector… Special forces discovered five bodies along with weapons and communication equipment.”
The statement affirmed the continued intensive efforts of Iraqi forces to eliminate “ISIS terrorism.”
