Fear of Israeli Attack Looms Over Baghdad

A widespread fear of an extensive Israeli attack looms over Baghdad, with party sources warning of serious threats of airstrikes on the country.

A source close to the “Coordination Framework” told Asharq Al-Awsat that “the seriousness of these threats has prompted Shia parties to call on the Prime Minister to take the necessary steps to prevent such attacks.”

The source added, “Iraqi armed factions have recently adopted a covert approach, relocating most of their military sites.”

Sources also reported “government estimates” of up to “300 Israeli attacks” potentially targeting Iraq.

Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the need for “international intervention to halt these aggressive Israeli actions” in a message to the UN Security Council.

Expert Ghazi Faisal described the Foreign Ministry’s message as “preventive diplomacy” aimed at avoiding a potential Israeli strike.
