French League: Marseille Rebounds with a 3-1 Victory Over Lens
Marseille regained its footing after a home loss to Auxerre (1-3) with a 3-1 away win over Lens on Saturday in the 12th round of Ligue 1.
The southern team scored twice early in the second half through Valentin Rongier (49’) and Brazilian Luis Henrique (57’). Angelo Fulgini reduced the deficit for Lens 10 minutes before the final whistle, but Danish player Pierre-Emile Højbjerg restored Marseille’s two-goal lead with a third goal in the 89th minute.
This victory brought Marseille back to winning ways after their defeat to Auxerre, which had angered their Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi. Following the loss, he had stated: “If I am the problem, I am ready to leave. I will forgo the money and return my contract.”
Marseille secured its seventh win of the season, consolidating third place with 23 points. Meanwhile, Lens suffered their third defeat of the campaign, remaining eighth in the standings with 17 points.
