Japan and the U.S. Prepare Military Plan for Taiwan Emergency
Japan’s Kyodo News Agency reported on Sunday that Japan and the United States aim to develop a military plan that includes deploying missiles in preparation for a potential emergency in Taiwan.
The agency, citing unnamed U.S. and Japanese sources, stated that the plan, expected to be finalized next month, involves deploying U.S. missile units in the Nansei Islands in Kagoshima and Okinawa prefectures in southwestern Japan, as well as in the Philippines, according to Reuters.
The plan also includes deploying a U.S. Marine battalion equipped with HIMARS light artillery missile systems and other weapons in the Nansei Islands.
Additionally, a U.S. unit specializing in space, cyber, and electromagnetic warfare will be stationed in the Philippines.
Japan’s Ministry of Defense and the U.S. and Philippine embassies in Tokyo did not respond to requests for comment on the report on Sunday.
