Baghdad Seeks to Intensify Diplomatic Efforts to Prevent “Any Potential Aggression” on Iraq

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said on Monday that there is a plan to expand Israel’s war in Gaza and Lebanon to include other countries.
Speaking at the opening of the Eighth Conference of Iraqi Ambassadors worldwide in Baghdad, the minister stressed the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to prevent “any threat or potential aggression” on Iraq.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said last week that he had sent a letter to the President of the UN Security Council urging immediate action to counter the activities of Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq, stating that the Iraqi government is responsible for any actions originating from its territory.
Earlier this month, U.S. media reported that the Biden administration warned the Iraqi government that it might face Israeli strikes if it does not prevent Iranian attacks on Israel from Iraqi soil.
Israel attacked Iranian military facilities and infrastructure last month in response to an Iranian missile attack on Israel, which followed Israel’s killing of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and other allied leaders in September.
