Agricultural Bank: 75 Billion Sudanese Pounds Allocated for Farming Season
Sudan Events – Reports
The Agricultural Bank’s General Manager, Mohamed Adam, disclosed that the institution suffered extensive looting and destruction at the hands of rebel militias.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Sudan on Monday about the current agricultural situation and the bank’s financing policies for the winter season, Adam revealed that 70 branches across Darfur, South Kordofan, Khartoum, Al-Jazirah, and Sennar states have ceased operations due to the attacks. Out of 120 branches nationwide, only 50 are currently functioning.
Adam confirmed that 75 billion Sudanese pounds have been allocated to finance the current agricultural season, emphasizing the bank’s continued efforts to ensure food security. He highlighted the existence of 10 units dedicated to supporting impoverished women and providing loans to small-scale farmers and producers.
“We relocated financing to safe areas to secure food crops like sorghum and wheat, along with cash crops like gum arabic, sesame, peanuts, and sunflower,” Adam said. He also confirmed the availability of fuel, thanks to cooperation with national companies, to maintain strategic reserves and exports, financing the cultivation of five million acres.
