Luis Enrique, coach of Paris Saint-Germain, urged his players to show courage and determination in their crucial Tuesday match against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, admitting that the team’s poor start leaves no room for error.
PSG currently sits in 25th place in the Champions League league phase, outside the playoff qualification zone, while Bayern holds 17th position in the 36-team standings.
Luis Enrique acknowledged that PSG’s struggles in their opening matches—two losses, one draw, and one win—have made things more challenging.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, he said:
“After four matches, including three at Parc des Princes, and with results that were either fair or unfair… we now have to deliver good results to qualify. We’ve made things hard for ourselves. Football is football, and you have to score. We will give everything, show courage, and take risks, as we always do.”
Bayern has won their last three Champions League matches against PSG, with the French team failing to score in all three encounters.
Luis Enrique admitted the challenge ahead, emphasizing that PSG must improve their performance to compete against Bayern.
“It’s very clear that we are two similar teams. We aim to dominate possession, press aggressively… and we have similar statistics. We are among the best teams in terms of creating chances, but one goal will make the difference. One team will suffer—it’s either them or us. Perhaps we’ll need to give more against Bayern. We have to run more and raise our level, especially since the match is at Bayern’s stadium,” he added.
