Former Official Urges Banks to Facilitate Account Opening for Customers
Sudan Events – Reports
A former government official, who preferred to remain anonymous, emphasized the need to intensify awareness campaigns about the security features of the new Sudanese currency to prevent counterfeiting.
The official urged banks to simplify account-opening processes and develop innovative technological solutions to attract clients and encourage deposits. He highlighted that such applications can resolve many issues, save time, and reduce costs for both banks and depositors.
He also warned against storing money in homes, safes, or underground, citing recent incidents of theft during the ongoing conflict as evidence of the importance of banking applications for safeguarding funds.
The official noted that the second phase of currency replacement should include easier procedures for opening bank accounts and incentivizing customers to do so. He described the currency replacement as a step to address theft issues, recover stolen or unused funds, and assess the volume of currency circulating outside the banking system.
