A technical delegation from the Sudanese Ministry of Minerals, currently visiting Morocco, has discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation, focusing on mining-related industries.

The Sudanese delegation includes the Director General of the Geological Research Authority of Sudan, Ahmed Haroun El-Tom, and the Director General of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, Mohamed Tahir, along with Sudan’s Ambassador to Morocco, Mawadda Omar Haj El-Tom.

In a press statement, the Director General of the Geological Research Authority stated that the delegation reviewed, with the Director of the General Center for Hydrocarbons and Mining in Morocco, the historic relations between the two countries and explored ways to strengthen economic cooperation. The discussions emphasized mining industries related to energy resources such as lithium, lead, and zinc.

Haroun noted that the delegation agreed to implement the memorandum of understanding signed in 2023 between the Ministry of Minerals, represented by the Geological Research Authority, and the Moroccan center. This agreement aims to build the technical and administrative capacities of the authority, promote higher education and research, and market Sudanese minerals. He further mentioned drafting an executive framework to extend the memorandum’s implementation to all arms of the Ministry of Minerals.
