“Qatar Grand Prix”: McLaren Dominates Sprint Race
The McLaren team took another step toward securing the Constructors’ Championship in the Formula 1 World Championship for the first time in 26 years, as their driver Oscar Piastri won the sprint race, finishing ahead of teammate Lando Norris, who came second after swapping positions near the end.
With this victory, McLaren extended its lead over Ferrari in the Constructors’ standings to 30 points. Ferrari’s drivers, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, finished fourth and fifth respectively. A total of 88 points remain up for grabs in the Qatar Grand Prix on Sunday and the final race in Abu Dhabi next week. McLaren needs to outperform Ferrari by 15 points on Sunday to clinch the title.
George Russell of Mercedes finished third, with teammate Lewis Hamilton in sixth, Haas driver Nico Hülkenberg in seventh, and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in eighth.
The position swap between McLaren drivers at the end was a reward for Piastri, who had gifted Norris the sprint race win in Brazil.
