Barcelona’s season under new coach Hansi Flick began with a spectacular run, winning 11 of their first 12 La Liga matches, averaging over three goals per game, and thrashing Real Madrid 4-0.
However, the team has recently hit a slump, collecting just one point from their last three matches. Losses to Real Sociedad and Las Palmas have slashed their lead at the top from nine points to one, putting Flick under pressure to turn things around against Mallorca on Tuesday.
Since their 3-1 win over Espanyol a month ago, Barcelona has lost 1-0 to Sociedad, squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Celta Vigo, and suffered an embarrassing 2-1 home defeat to relegation-threatened Las Palmas.
With Real Madrid in second place with 37 points and a game in hand, Barcelona cannot afford further slip-ups. Flick urged his players on Monday to be more decisive in attack and make the most of their opportunities.
“The good news is November is over, and we’re now in December,” Flick remarked at a press conference. “The team has put in a lot of effort, shown discipline in midfield, and created plenty of chances. But we need to finish games better.”
The former Bayern Munich and Germany manager added: “It’s not about handling pressure—it’s about focus. We’re a young team that needs to learn and fight for victories. Defensively, we need to prevent goals as a team. Offensively, we need to capitalize on our chances. Football is ultimately about scoring, and we need to deliver.”
