Arteta: Manchester Clubs Have Not Yet Given Up on the Title Race
Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, stated that “anything is possible” when asked if Ruben Amorim could lead Manchester United to the title this season.
According to The Athletic, Arteta said on Tuesday: “We’re still at the start of the season, and any team that can win five or six consecutive games will be at the top, because it’s very difficult. Every week, you see how teams struggle to maintain wins.”
Arsenal will face United at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, with six points separating the two teams before the match.
Arteta also dismissed the possibility of ruling out Manchester City, managed by Pep Guardiola. He said: “They are a team that has the ability to turn things around, win, and keep winning, so don’t rule them out because you know how much quality and the manager they have.”
Arsenal will also face United in the third round of the FA Cup.
Regarding the draw, Arteta philosophically said: “That’s the way it is with draws; you can face anyone. We’ll play at home again, and it will be a big match. This reflects the story of recent seasons, where we face strong teams in the third or fourth round. If you want to achieve what this club has historically done, you have to beat the big teams to win the ultimate prize.”
When asked about the team’s condition ahead of Wednesday’s match, Arteta remained cautious as usual.
Thomas Partey, Mikel Merino, and Myles Lewis-Skelly missed Saturday’s 2-1 victory over West Ham due to injury. Defensive duo Ricardo Calafiore and Gabriel were substituted, and they appear to be experiencing some discomfort after recent injury issues.
When asked for an update on his team, Arteta replied: “We’ll have a meeting Tuesday afternoon. We had to monitor and pull some players out of certain activities. I know they all want to play.”
