The Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, received on Tuesday a written message from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, regarding enhancing and developing relations between the two countries to serve the interests of both peoples.
Al-Burhan received the message at his office in Port Sudan from Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Ambassador Badr Abdel-Aty, in the presence of Sudanese Foreign Minister Ambassador Ali Yusuf.
In a press statement, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Yusuf noted that the visit of the Egyptian Foreign Minister reflects the strength and development of the relations between the two countries, emphasizing that it comes at a historic and important time in Sudan’s ongoing developments, from the war for national dignity to efforts to end the war for the benefit of the Sudanese people, rebuilding what the war has destroyed, and extracting Sudan from the dark tunnel it was thrown into by the war and those behind it. He added that the meeting between Al-Burhan and the Egyptian Foreign Minister was productive, and the Egyptian president’s message confirmed the shared destiny of the two Nile Valley peoples. Minister Yusuf stated that Al-Burhan expressed gratitude to President El-Sisi and the Egyptian people for their warm reception of Sudanese refugees who had fled to Egypt due to the war, as well as the support provided by Egypt.
The Foreign Minister also mentioned that there are some issues facing Sudanese citizens in Egypt, which were discussed with Minister Badr Abdel-Aty, who promised to address and resolve them.
For his part, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Ambassador Badr Abdel-Aty, explained that his visit to Sudan was in response to President El-Sisi’s instructions to convey Egypt’s full support and solidarity with Sudan, pointing out that the meeting covered the overall developments in the region and President El-Sisi’s directives to provide all possible support to the Sudanese people. He affirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Sudan and stated that he was briefed on the developments in Sudan by the Chairman of the Sovereign Council. He also confirmed that both Sudanese and Egyptian leaderships share the will to intensify consultations on all issues of mutual concern, especially regarding coordination in regional and international forums.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized Egypt’s keenness to restore Sudan’s membership and activity in the African Union and confirmed Egypt’s willingness to do everything possible to help Sudan resume its activity within the Union as soon as possible.
He also mentioned the ongoing consultations between the two countries regarding water issues, considering them existential for both Egypt and Sudan, as they are downstream countries, and stressed the importance of addressing their concerns.
