Decline in Cholera Cases in Shendi

Shendi – Rahab Abdullah
The Director of the Health Department in Shendi Locality, Samia Osman, revealed that cholera cases have declined to only 27 cases, with 4-5 cases remaining in the external isolation center, compared to about 120 cases in recent days.
During her speech at the Shendi Radio’s regular forum on Wednesday, she stated that Shendi was the last locality in the state to report cholera cases, and the current increase in cases was linked to the displacement of people from East Gezira.
She announced that the locality is free from Dengue fever cases, noting that mosquitoes suspected to be carrying the disease were detected in southern Shendi. Consequently, an insect survey was conducted, and the results are expected from the laboratory in Port Sudan in the coming days. She warned of the dangers of Dengue fever, as it can develop into hemorrhagic fever, urging citizens to fight mosquitoes inside their homes, as drying them out is more effective than using insecticides.
Samia also confirmed that the locality is free from sand flies, but a case of Leishmaniasis was reported from an incoming patient who has been completely treated.
She affirmed that all necessary measures and precautions have been taken to combat epidemics and diseases.
