Organizers of the Hamburg Open tennis tournament confirmed on Thursday that Russian Andrey Rublev, currently ranked 8th in the world, is the first top-ranked player to confirm his participation in next year’s tournament.
According to the German news agency (dpa), Rublev won the tournament, which takes place on clay courts, in 2020 and reached the final in the previous edition of the event. Rublev has won six of his 16 career titles on clay courts, including the Monte Carlo Masters last year and the Madrid Masters this year.
Enrique Molina Mor, the tournament director, stated, “More top players will be announced for the competition in the coming weeks.”
The Hamburg Open returns to its original schedule in May next year, after several years in July. This will once again make it a warm-up event for the French Open (Roland Garros), and it will also offer higher prize money.
The 2025 edition of the Hamburg Open is scheduled to take place from May 17 to 24, with the French Open, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments, starting the following day.
