Coordination Between the Ministry of Industry and UNIDO to Implement Projects
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Minister of Industry, Mahasin Ali Yacoub, praised the distinguished partnership between the Ministry of Industry and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and commended the significant role the organization plays in supporting industrial development programs in Sudan through the implementation of many projects that align with sustainable development goals.
The Minister of Industry met with the UNIDO Country Director and project coordinators in Sudan. She emphasized that the exceptional circumstances the country is going through, along with the systematic destruction of factories and the industrial sector’s infrastructure, require both the Ministry of Industry and UNIDO to exert more effort to alleviate the effects of the war and move to the reconstruction phase, with a focus on projects that will provide employment for youth and women.
On his part, the UNIDO Country Director in Sudan, Mohamed Al-Sayed, stated that UNIDO is working in coordination and alignment with the Ministry of Industry in implementing industrial development programs. He mentioned that the organization is focused on rehabilitating human resources, supporting productive projects, and creating job opportunities.
The Minister was briefed on the projects implemented in the states of Gadaref and Kassala. These include the Women’s Employment Project for Food Security in Gadaref, funded by the Canadian government, and the project for achieving value-added agricultural production chains in Kassala, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. These projects aim to increase production and add value to agricultural products by converting them into industrial products.
The Minister expressed her happiness with the implementation of these projects, which contribute to creating job opportunities and employing youth and women, while also supporting local communities and preparing to enter into partnerships for small and medium-sized projects.
Both parties emphasized the importance of close coordination between the Ministry of Industry and UNIDO in implementing these projects by ensuring the Ministry’s representation in steering and technical committees.
