Government: Currency Replacement to Be Conducted via Bank Deposits

Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Lieutenant General Engineer Ibrahim Jaber, a member of the Sovereignty Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Army, chaired a meeting of the Supreme Committee for Currency Change and Replacement in Port Sudan. The meeting included Finance and Economic Planning Minister Jibril Ibrahim, Culture and Information Minister and government spokesperson Khaled Al-Ayeser, along with committee members.
In a press statement, the Culture and Information Minister explained that the meeting discussed several critical topics and final arrangements for resuming the replacement process. He noted that despite the exceptional circumstances caused by the destruction of Sudan’s resources and economy by the terrorist militia, the committee has established regulations and procedures to ensure the safe and smooth execution of the replacement process.
The committee reviewed the costs, duties assigned to members, and the results of visits by committee delegations to some states to assess their preparedness. It also discussed the banking system’s arrangements, including the role of the Central Bank of Sudan in the targeted states.
The minister added that the meeting addressed security measures, efforts to combat currency forgery, and mechanisms to deposit stolen funds seized by the terrorist militia. Additionally, the committee monitored potential fraudulent activities during the currency replacement process.
He emphasized that strict measures have been put in place to verify counterfeit banknotes before opening accounts.
Al-Ayeser urged all citizens to open bank accounts, highlighting that the currency replacement would not be conducted in cash but through bank deposits to protect citizens’ rights and safeguard the national economy.
