Governor of Khartoum Announces Support for Omdurman Market Traders

The Governor of Khartoum, Ahmed Osman Hamza, announced that the state government is working to provide all necessary facilities to restore the activities that were carried out in Omdurman market.
He confirmed during his speech at a large gathering organized by the Omdurman market traders on Friday, his solidarity with traders whose markets were looted by rebel militias. He also mentioned ongoing consultations with banks to reopen their branches in the market, as it is one of the oldest markets in Sudan.
The Governor called on shop owners and traders to contact the market committee and the local authority to resume their business activities.
The Executive Director of Omdurman Municipality, Saif al-Din Mukhtar, the Director of Khartoum State Police, Major General Amir Abdul Moneim, and the Acting Director of the Khartoum State Security Agency, Major General Walid Bayoumi, also attended the meeting.
The Governor confirmed the police’s readiness to provide full protection for the market, referring to ongoing efforts to restore the market’s police station in preparation for its reopening to secure commercial shops.
For his part, the Executive Director of Omdurman Municipality, Saif al-Din Mukhtar, stated that the resumption of work at the administrative unit will greatly contribute to providing basic services needed by shop owners, especially electricity and water. Mukhtar confirmed the ongoing efforts to remove debris and war remnants from residential neighborhoods and markets to revive the historical capital, Omdurman.
Several traders and members of the Omdurman Market Initiative expressed their appreciation for the state’s efforts to rebuild what the war destroyed and expressed their willingness to resume their activities.
In the same context, the Governor of Khartoum visited Omdurman market, accompanied by members of the market initiative. During the visit, he reviewed the local efforts to remove the war remnants and learned about the obstacles faced by traders, promising to work on overcoming them.
