High Productivity Expected for Corn and Gum Arabic
Sudan Events – Rihab Abdullah
The Vice President of the Sudanese Farmers Union – Rainfed Sector, Gireig Kambal, has predicted high productivity for corn, gum arabic, and snacks crops in the upcoming agricultural season.
In his interview with Al-Ahdath, he revealed that the productivity of sesame has decreased by 30%.
Gireig pointed out the reduction in cultivated areas during the agricultural season, describing the situation as not promising. However, he considered the season to be exceptional due to the ongoing war, which has lasted almost two years. As a result, only limited funding was provided to farmers, and most of the farming was done through personal efforts and some funding in the safer states. Gireig ruled out a food crisis, stating that the quantity of corn grown would be enough to meet demand and more, due to the reduced use of corn as animal and poultry feed.
He also predicted that corn prices would not fall below 100,000 pounds per sack.
