Lopetegui: I Commit to Changing the Situation at West Ham

Julen Lopetegui, West Ham United’s manager, promised on Friday to turn things around for his struggling team in the English Premier League, while reports suggested that the club’s board met to discuss his future.
The BBC reported last Thursday that the board decided to keep Lopetegui in charge until the team’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
West Ham, who are currently 14th in the Premier League, lost 3-1 to Leicester City last week.
Lopetegui, who took over in May, said: “I always have a great commitment to my job, and I am very happy to stay at West Ham. We will change the situation.”
He added: “I understand everything related to football, and I know my main goal and responsibility are to be ready for a very tiring and difficult match. But at the same time, it’s a great opportunity and a huge challenge for us at home, and we must be ready to win the three points. That’s the most important thing.”
Lopetegui, former manager of the Spanish national team and Real Madrid, was met with chants from West Ham supporters saying, “You’ll be sacked in the morning” after the loss to Leicester, which was the seventh defeat in 14 Premier League matches, leaving the team six points above the relegation zone.
Lopetegui said: “I take responsibility and the pressure. That’s why I’m a coach. We’re not happy, and undoubtedly, the fans are always right… They give us far more than we give them. We have to change the situation, and we look forward to that.”
