Eyewitnesses and sources from Darfur24 in the town of Al-Santah, south of Nyala in South Darfur, reported the killing of three brothers on Thursday by a force affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces after they protested a ruling by a local court.
Youssef Ibrahim Youssef, a local leader, stated according to Darfur24, that a traditional court led by the chiefs of Nayir Jumah Hamad and Adam Muhammad Ali fined the three brothers for allowing their livestock to enter a citizen’s farm. The court ordered them to pay 150,000 Sudanese pounds.
The three brothers rejected the ruling and protested the fine, prompting a response from a Rapid Support Force unit that chased them through the town, resulting in one brother being run over and the other two shot.
The residents of Al-Santah protested the RSF’s actions, leading to widespread protests in the town on Friday morning. The court members fled to Baram, accompanied by the RSF forces, awaiting intervention by Naqaz Youssef Ali Al-Ghali to find a quick resolution before the situation worsens.
The villagers buried the three brothers but refused to hold any formal ceremonies until the RSF members and the local chiefs responsible for the killings are apprehended.
