Pentagon: New $988 Million Military Aid Package for Ukraine
The United States announced on Saturday a new military aid package for Ukraine worth $988 million, as Washington races to provide support to Kyiv before President-elect Donald Trump assumes office.
The Pentagon’s statement detailed that the package includes drones, ammunition for HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems), and spare parts for artillery systems, tanks, and armored vehicles, according to AFP.
President Joe Biden’s outgoing administration reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Kyiv before the transfer of power to President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, who has openly criticized military aid to Ukraine.
Last week, Pentagon spokesperson General Patrick Ryder stated: “The bottom line is that under the President’s direction, we will allocate every dollar Congress has designated for Ukraine and replenishing our stockpiles.” He emphasized the administration’s understanding of Ukraine’s urgent needs and its commitment to ensuring Kyiv receives the necessary assistance.
