Sudan Events – Follow-up
On Sunday, the Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met in his office with the head of the Joint Oversight Committee for the Abyei Area (Sudanese side), Police General Dr. Hamid Manan Mohamed.
The committee head stated in a press release that he briefed the Chairman of the Sovereign Council on the overall situation in the Abyei region, the efforts to promote peaceful coexistence among the area’s communities, and the outcomes of the meetings held by the Sudanese side of the Abyei Oversight Committee with the UN Security Committee (UNISFA). These discussions will pave the way for resuming joint meetings between Sudan and South Sudan in the upcoming period.
General Manan added that he also updated the Sovereign Council Chairman on the ongoing preparations for the conference, scheduled for December 9-12, which will be held in Abyei between the Misseriya and Dinka communities. The conference aims to lay the foundation for peace in the region. He praised the high level of cooperation and coexistence among all the communities in Abyei and emphasized the Sovereign Council Chairman’s interest and support for all programs and initiatives that aim to achieve peace and peaceful coexistence in the region.
