Griezmann Reveals His Love for Video Games and Shines with Atlético Madrid
French star Antoine Griezmann hopes to be as skilled in real life as he is in the world of PlayStation games, based on his recent performances with Atlético Madrid. His remarkable form indicates he’s playing at a high level both on the pitch and in gaming.
According to the German News Agency (DPA), Griezmann and his teammate, Argentine Julián Álvarez, have returned to their peak form. The team’s 10-match winning streak has put them back on track in both the Champions League and La Liga. On Sunday, they will host Getafe in the league, aiming for the top spot.
Griezmann scored his sixth and seventh goals in the last five matches, leading Atlético to a 3–1 victory over Slovakia’s Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on Wednesday. Álvarez, too, has netted five goals in his last five games.
A long-time fan of video games, Griezmann has often made headlines for his celebrations inspired by games like Fortnite. On Wednesday at the Metropolitano Stadium, he celebrated with teammates Pablo Barrios and Giuliano Simeone, imitating moves from video games they play together.
Griezmann said: “We play FIFA a lot, and that celebration is something we do when gaming. Honestly, we’re better at FIFA than we are on the pitch!”
Álvarez added: “We played exceptionally well as a team today. Everyone, including those on the bench, contributed to the victory. We’re on the right track and must maintain this level. Every competition has its challenges, but we’re performing very well.”
The victory against Slovan Bratislava puts Atlético in 11th place in the Champions League standings, as they strive to reach the top eight in the league phase.
