Poll: Americans Have Little Confidence in Trump’s Government Appointments
A new poll conducted by the Associated Press and the NORC Research Center reveals that Americans have little confidence in the government appointments made by President-elect Donald Trump, or in his ability to manage government spending.
While Trump is naming candidates for key positions in his administration, some of whom may face tough confirmation battles in the Senate, even with Republican control, about half of American adults are “not at all confident” in his ability to appoint qualified individuals to his cabinet and other senior government positions. Only about 3 in 10 Americans said they are “strongly” confident that Trump will choose competent people for his administration. The majority of Republicans, however, expressed high confidence.
Trump has promised to bring radical changes to Washington through a bold approach, which includes establishing a Government Efficiency Ministry—a non-governmental task force responsible for finding ways to fire federal workers, reduce programs, and cut federal regulations. This will be led by billionaire Elon Musk and his business partner Vivek Ramaswamy.
However, beyond his appointments, the poll found a similar level of confidence in Trump’s ability to manage government spending and handle other key presidential tasks, including overseeing the military and the White House, which saw significant turnover in senior staff during Trump’s first term, particularly in its early days.
