Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone confirmed on Saturday that defender Robin Le Normand will have more playing time after missing two matches following a severe head injury.
Le Normand, who joined Atlético from Real Sociedad in July, returned to action in a 3-1 Copa del Rey victory against Cacereño earlier this month. However, the 28-year-old defender has been on the bench for the last two games—against Sevilla in La Liga and Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League—without playing.
Speaking to reporters, Simeone said:
“Robin is an amazing defender, and there are players giving their all to compete for the same position. He’s working hard to earn his chance. His moment will come; we need everyone.”
Antoine Griezmann and new signing Julián Álvarez have shone in recent matches, with Griezmann scoring 11 goals and providing six assists across all competitions this season, while Álvarez has netted 12 goals.
Simeone praised the duo:
“They’ve improved their understanding and developed a strong partnership. When (Ángel) Correa or (Alexander) Sørloth join, the team becomes more complete offensively. We have four key forwards, and we need the best from all of them.”
Atlético Madrid, currently third with 35 points from 16 matches, has won ten consecutive matches across all competitions. They host 15th-placed Getafe at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday.
Trailing league leaders Barcelona by three points, with a game in hand, Simeone stressed the importance of focus:
“The only way to handle things is through hard work and commitment. At the end of the day, it’s just a match, and anything can happen. I’ve always viewed Getafe as a highly competitive team with a clear game plan. Their coach makes them competitive no matter their position in the table. We can’t expect an easy or straightforward match.”
