Bundesliga: Stuttgart Continues Its Resurgence with a Win Over Heidenheim

Stuttgart, last season’s runners-up, continued their revival with their fourth consecutive victory across all competitions, defeating hosts Heidenheim 3-1 on Sunday in the 14th round of the German Bundesliga.
According to Agence France-Presse, Stuttgart seems determined to end the year on a high note. After a 3-0 win over second-division side Jahn Regensburg in the DFB-Pokal Round of 16, they beat Union Berlin 3-2 in the previous league round. They also kept their hopes alive for a UEFA Champions League Round of 16 playoff spot with a resounding 5-1 win against Switzerland’s Young Boys, marking their sixth Bundesliga victory of the season.
Stuttgart has one remaining match this year, facing St. Pauli next Saturday in the 15th round.
Stuttgart owes its first-ever top-flight victory against Heidenheim (after losing 0-2 in the first leg and drawing 3-3 in the second last season) to goals by Maximilian Mittelstädt (20), Frenchman Enzo Millot (45+2), and Nick Woltemade (85, penalty). Meanwhile, Paul Wanner (41) scored the lone goal for the hosts, who suffered their 10th defeat of the season and sit 16th with 10 points.
Stuttgart climbed to sixth place with 23 points, pending Borussia Dortmund’s (21 points) match against Hoffenheim later Sunday. Leipzig (fourth with 24 points) also faces Eintracht Frankfurt (27 points), aiming to reclaim second place from reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen (29 points).
