La Liga: Atlético Defeats Getafe to Secure Second Place

Atlético Madrid claimed second place in the La Liga standings after defeating visiting Getafe 1-0 on Sunday in the 17th round of the competition.

According to the German News Agency (DPA), Atlético Madrid’s sole goal came through Alexander Sørloth in the 69th minute.

This victory marked Atlético’s sixth consecutive win in the league and their 11th in the last 11 matches, raising their points tally to 38. They now share the same points as league leaders Barcelona but trail on goal difference. Barcelona faces Leganés on Sunday as part of the same round.

Atlético overtook their city rivals Real Madrid, who dropped two vital points on Saturday after a 3-3 draw against Rayo Vallecano in the same round. Real Madrid still has a game in hand.

On the other hand, Getafe remains in 15th place with 16 points.
