Sudan Events – Rehaba Abdullah
Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Yusuf Ahmed Sharif confirmed his interest in the Gezira Scheme and his readiness to attract investments from Russia, China, Turkey, and other countries with advanced agricultural technologies to partner with the Gezira project in the post-war phase.
During a meeting in Port Sudan on Monday with the Governor of the Gezira Scheme, Ibrahim Mustafa Ali, the Minister committed to working with various countries and international organizations to secure the necessary support for rehabilitating the war-damaged parts of the Gezira Scheme, considering it a vital source for securing food for Sudan and the wider Arab and regional world.
The Governor of the Gezira Scheme briefed the Foreign Minister on the current agricultural situation in the project, the areas planted for the 2024/2025 season, and the high production rates of summer crops, dispelling any claims of famine in Sudan. He confirmed that the Gezira Scheme is well-equipped and flexible enough to adopt modern technologies to improve production in line with global standards.
The Governor also informed the Minister of the damages inflicted on the scheme’s infrastructure and facilities due to militia attacks.
