Deputy of Burhan: Presence of Foreign Mercenaries within Militia Forces Hinders Peace Efforts

Sudan Events – Follow-ups
On Wednesday, the Deputy Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Malik Agar, met with Nicholas Randin, Director of the Africa Department at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, along with Catherine Weiss, Head of the Sudan Program, and Stephan Bomhacher, the financial officer of the agency, in addition to the Swiss Ambassador for the Horn of Africa, Sylvian Ester.
The meeting discussed the current situation in Sudan, the ongoing developments, and the Sudanese government’s efforts and commitment to ending the suffering of the Sudanese people.
During the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council emphasized that the main obstacle to peace is the presence of foreign mercenaries fighting within the ranks of the rebel militia.
Agar informed Ambassador Randin of his dissatisfaction with some organizations’ propaganda claiming there is famine in Sudan, stating that the visit helped gain a firsthand understanding of the situation rather than relying on reports that often misrepresent the realities to European officials.
Agar praised the efforts of the Swiss government in supporting the Sudanese during their hardship and providing humanitarian assistance.
For his part, Ambassador Randin thanked the Sudanese government for facilitating the work of relief teams and staff of humanitarian organizations operating in the country.
The Director of the Africa Department at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation also briefed the Deputy Chairman on the results of his visits to Kassala State and Port Sudan City, where he observed the humanitarian situation.
