“Central Bank” Calls for Setting Up Tents Outside Banks to Open Accounts for Citizens

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
The head of the Operations and Follow-up Committee for Currency Replacement at the Central Bank of Sudan, Abdulrahman Mohammed Abdulrahman, has instructed banks to call in additional staff to address the congestion caused by the increased number of citizens seeking currency exchange, coupled with the shortage of deposit windows.
During a visit to commercial banks in Port Sudan, Red Sea State, on Thursday, Abdulrahman recommended that banks set up tents outside to facilitate the opening of accounts for citizens, while the deposit windows should be reserved for deposits.
He emphasized the growing role of bank officials at this stage, particularly in ensuring the proper inspection of banknotes to detect counterfeiting. He also listened to citizens’ complaints and inquiries, assuring that the 500-pound notes are included in the replacement process and will become invalid after the replacement period ends. He confirmed that the 100-pound and 200-pound notes remain valid.
