Legal Actions Against Consumer Protection Law Violators
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO), in partnership with the Consumer Protection and Supply Police, conducted inspection and awareness campaigns in Kosti during the third week of December. The campaigns aimed to ensure compliance with food storage and display requirements, focusing on wheat flour.
The campaigns targeted 30 sites in Kosti’s main and popular markets, collecting samples of wheat flour for laboratory testing. Results showed that two tons of flour failed to meet Sudanese standards for human consumption. Legal and technical actions are now underway against violators under the Consumer Protection Law, including arrangements for destruction.
Lieutenant Colonel Al-Obeid Yassin, Director of State Investigations, praised the efforts of the Supply and Consumer Protection Police and their partners in implementing these campaigns. He called for continued inspections across cities and markets in the state.
Meanwhile, Engineer Magdy Siddig Al-Haj, Director of SSMO in White Nile State, urged traders to adhere to the Sudanese standards for food storage and display. He also encouraged consumers to report violations via hotline 5960.
