On Wednesday, the head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, joined the Christians in Port Sudan in celebrating Christmas at the Catholic Church, with a large public reception attended by the Governor of the Red Sea and a number of officials and Christian clerics.
In his speech, Al-Burhan expressed his happiness at participating in these celebrations on the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ (PBUH). He said, “We ask God that this occasion passes, and our country enjoys the peace that Jesus Christ carried the banner of.” He emphasized that the Sudanese people do not deserve the injustice and suffering they are going through, and expressed hope that by next year, Sudan would witness peace and stability.
He praised the leadership of the historic Catholic Church, which played a role in Sudan’s independence and supported the Sudanese state. He called for adherence to the teachings of the heavenly religions that advocate for love and peace.
