Guardiola to Make Final Decision on Trio’s Status for Everton Match
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola revealed that he will make a decision on whether John Stones, Matheus Nunes, and Ederson Moraes will feature against Everton after the team’s final training session on Wednesday, before the start of the Boxing Day fixtures.
Manchester City will host Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday, December 28, as part of the 18th round of the Premier League.
The reigning Premier League champions, who have won the title in the past four seasons, are hoping to overcome their recent struggles, having only won one match and drawn once, with six losses in their last eight league games.
Stones returned to the starting lineup for Manchester City’s 1-2 loss to Aston Villa last Saturday but was substituted at halftime after Guardiola stated that the English defender was feeling unwell.
Neither goalkeeper Ederson nor Nunes was included in the lineup for the Villa Park match, and Guardiola mentioned that both players will be assessed in the coming hours.
Guardiola, when asked about Stones’ situation, said, “I haven’t spoken to the doctors yet, but if he couldn’t play the second half at Villa Park, it’s because he wasn’t ready. We’ll see.”
Regarding Nunes and Ederson, Guardiola added: “We’ll see who’s available after today’s training session.”
Currently, Manchester City sits in seventh place in the Premier League standings with 27 points, having won eight games, drawn three, and lost six, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand against Everton.
