The Russian embassy in Khartoum denied claims that Sudanese authorities had rejected hosting a Russian naval base. A statement from the embassy described articles in Western newspapers, which alleged that Sudan had refused the establishment of a Russian naval base and that things were “going badly” for Russia in Sudan, as complete lies.
Bloomberg had retracted a report stating that Khartoum had rejected an agreement with Moscow concerning the establishment of a naval base. The Sudanese ambassador to Russia also denied any abandonment of the agreement with Moscow to build a Russian naval base on Sudan’s Red Sea coast, confirming that Sudan was still discussing the agreement with Russia.
