Gedarif Governor Calls for More Funds from the Center to Meet Harvest Operations
Sudan Events – Reports
The acting governor of Gedaref, Major General Mohamed Ahmed Hassan, called on the central government to inject more funds into Gedaref State due to its agricultural significance and the need for cash to meet harvest operations. At the same time, farmers emphasized the importance of raising the daily withdrawal limits to meet harvest needs in Gedaref, suggesting that a comprehensive memorandum should be drafted by banks to the center to address the necessary increases in cash withdrawals.
The governor urged farmers to open more bank accounts to cover daily expenses related to harvest operations.
He also renewed the government’s commitment to tightening technical and security supervision over currency exchange operations in their final days to achieve the desired goals, affirming full adherence to all federal directives and Central Bank of Sudan regulations for currency exchange.
The Higher Committee for Currency Exchange in Gedaref held a joint meeting with bank managers in the state and remotely with executive directors of the localities, in the presence of several farmers. The meeting discussed the issues raised by the localities regarding currency exchange operations, pointing out the weak communication networks and the limited amount of new money available to banks in the localities.
The meeting also reviewed reports from farmers about the problems hindering crop harvesting operations due to the low daily withdrawal amounts.
