The Executive Board of the Mineral Resources Company, chaired by its Director General, Mohamed Taher Omar, approved the company’s annual performance report during its fifth meeting.
The report revealed gold export revenues amounting to $1.557 billion, with a total production of 625 tons of gold.
The Director General commended the employees’ efforts, stating that these remarkable results reflect their commitment and dedication to achieving the company’s objectives. He emphasized that this achievement highlights the company’s ability to tackle challenges and advance the mining sector for the benefit of the national economy.
The meeting also discussed environmental issues associated with artisanal mining, particularly the widespread use of mercury mills, which pose a significant environmental threat. It approved measures to regulate and legalize their operations, focusing on balancing revenue generation with environmental protection.
The Director General stressed that environmental issues are not only a priority for the company but a national responsibility that must be addressed seriously. The meeting presented a comprehensive vision to develop the artisanal mining sector, aiming to transform it into a sustainable economic activity through regulation, modernization, and the provision of advanced technologies to reduce environmental damage and improve production efficiency. This vision also includes establishing centralized processing centers and promoting awareness programs to enhance responsible and sustainable mining practices.
The meeting concluded by approving the plan for the coming year, which focuses on enhancing social responsibility, developing the sector, and increasing productivity, with priority given to environmental issues as a cornerstone for driving sustainable development and supporting the national economy.
