Sudanese Retirees Submit Urgent Memorandum to Al-Burhan
Sudan Events – Rehaba Abdullah
Sudanese retirees have called on the Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, to intervene immediately to address their issue.
They submitted a memorandum, signed by Salah Awad, Chairman of the Sudanese Retirees Union, to the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, urging him to look into the retirees’ issues and take urgent action.
The memorandum outlined that this group suffers from poor living conditions due to the suspension of their salaries, the weak monthly entitlements, and the accumulation of dues from previous years, including Eid bonuses. Additionally, they have not received their end-of-service benefits (14 months) or the replacement for war retirees (2023-2024), whose pensions have not been issued yet. They are enduring the hardships of two wars: “the militia war and the war of living.”
The memorandum also mentioned the retirees’ grievances, such as the mismanagement of the investment funds of retirees’ bodies, which have not benefited from these resources, though they could provide a decent life for them and their families. They also highlighted the failure to implement a court ruling to improve pensions, which has not been enforced.
The retirees emphasized that they had no one to turn to except the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, as he is the ultimate authority, followed by the ministers. They called for the immediate implementation of the court ruling to improve pensions.
