The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met on Thursday with Salah al-Din Mohamed Osman Abdel Rahman, Sudan’s Auditor General.
The meeting addressed financial auditing issues that contribute to achieving maximum technical efficiency, accuracy, and independence to safeguard public funds and prevent financial violations. It also discussed ways to overcome challenges facing the General Audit Bureau’s performance and tasks.
In a press statement, the Auditor General stated that he briefed the Sovereign Council Chairman on the bureau’s performance, financial and accounting reports for previous years across all state institutions, as well as updates on work progress in various states, noting that Khartoum State’s accounts have been reviewed.
He emphasized that the General Audit Bureau operates independently and impartially, free from state influence. He also announced that the bureau ranked first in independence among all Arab state audit bodies, second in Africa, and seventeenth globally according to World Bank indicators.
The Auditor General underscored the importance of concerted efforts to enhance the bureau’s performance to keep up with global auditing developments. He added that accounts for 589 government units and Sudanese embassies abroad have been reviewed, stating, “We began according to the financial year 2024 audit plan.”
