Akanji: Everton Draw a Turning Point for City

Swiss international defender Manuel Akanji of Manchester City believes that their 1-1 draw with Everton on Thursday could mark a turning point for his team after a disappointing run of results, with only one win in their last 13 matches across all competitions.
This series of poor results has seen Manchester City, champions for the past four seasons, drop to seventh place in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by 14 points, with Liverpool also having a game in hand.
Akanji said: “It felt frustrating after the draw, but compared to recent matches, we actually played really well from the first minute to the last. We tried to score, played attacking football, but they (Everton) scored out of nowhere. We did enough to win, but things didn’t go our way.”
He added: “We need to keep working hard. The next opportunity is just a few days away. There’s nothing else we can do at this moment. We’re trying everything.”
Akanji also highlighted the injury issues the team is facing: “We’ve had a lot of injuries, so it’s not easy right now. But we’ll find a way to turn things around, and luck will eventually be on our side again.”
He concluded: “In a bad run like this, it’s hard to explain, but we need to keep pushing. I still believe we’ll get back to the way we used to play.”
