Criminal Proceedings Against the Director of the Al-Rahad Agricultural Corporation
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Director General of the Al-Rahad Agricultural Authority, Engineer Atef Mahmoud, was placed in custody at the Fao Police Station following a complaint of non-payment to the Agricultural Bank.
This move came despite the decision by the Minister of Agriculture and Chairman of the Bank’s Board of Directors, Dr. Abu Bakr Omar Al-Bashir, not to pursue criminal actions against the defaulters of the Agricultural Bank.
Farmers praised the individuals who contributed to Engineer Atef’s release from custody, including Colonel Hussein Raddad and Major Abdel Qader, pointing out that the minister had requested funds from the authority for one week to settle the outstanding amounts.
Farmers acknowledged the weak collection efforts due to several factors, most notably the ongoing war, which had frozen six departments that represent the backbone of the Al-Rahad Corporation and its revenues, in addition to the flooding that affected large areas, causing them to fall out of production.
