Crimes of rape committed by the militia.. The evidence doesn’t lie

Sudan Events – Agencies

The black files of the rebellious Rapid Support Forces militia are countless and innumerable, but the most sinister among them are the crimes of rape against Sudanese women and girls, including minors and children whose ages do not exceed five years. Some may not believe it, but unfortunately, it is a tangible reality confirmed by the families of the victims. And we reveal in the following section that the villages they occupy are not coincidental or for mere pleasure, but rather systematic rapes with their own goals and objectives that the militia leaders aim for. They are not just rapes; they have further implications, the most prominent of which is the depopulation of villages and cities to implement a demographic change plan and erase the Sudanese identity.
The story of the girl S:
Thousands of Sudanese minors have been raped by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia, and there is no consolation for the world’s countries in light of this strange, absolute silence from the world. Here are some examples:

(S) A girl not older than 13 years was attacked by a group of Rapid Support Forces militia in her village located north of the city of Rufa’a. All the villagers rushed out in chaos and haste, fearing the wrath of the Janjaweed. However, the girl lost her family and left the village alone, getting lost in the wilderness. Six members of the militia assaulted her and raped her one after the other, then left her lying in the wilderness, alone, fighting for her life due to bleeding. However, divine providence was with her, as some citizens fleeing from their village passed by her and carried her with them to the city of New Halfa in a deplorable condition.
Child Rape:
The rapes committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia are countless and innumerable, including crimes that are hushed up by the families of the raped girls due to the stigma that can befall the girl and her entire family, according to some beliefs. The militia did not only rape girls and married women, but even small children, as a case was recorded where four girls, not older than five years, were raped by members of the rebellious militia.
A woman from one of the villages in the island revealed that two armed men from the Rapid Support Forces stormed her house and attempted to rape her two young daughters, aged 10 and 17. She asked them to take shelter behind her and then told the two RSF members: “If you want to rape one of us, let it be me.” They left her daughters and raped their mother in front of them. She is ready to testify before any official committee formed to investigate the crimes of rape.
Another victim of rape said: “A number of Rapid Support Forces attacked us in our home in one of the villages of Al-Jazeera and ordered me to take off my clothes. When I refused, they beat me severely with the whips they carry with them. Then they threatened me that if I didn’t take off my clothes, they would rape my youngest daughter, who was with me at home and was no more than seven years old at the time. I asked her to leave the room, and three of them raped me one after the other.”
Pregnancy symptoms:
With the onset of the war in Khartoum, a number of Rapid Support Forces attacked a house at night and attempted to rape an 18-year-old girl who was sleeping inside with her younger brother. She started screaming for help, and several neighbors rushed to her aid, but the Rapid Support Forces pointed their weapons at them and ordered them to return to their homes. They locked her brother in one of the rooms, then raped her and left as if nothing had happened. The tragedy is that after a while, the girl felt symptoms of pregnancy and tried to get rid of it, but she couldn’t. In the end, she gave birth to twins.
Two sisters, aged 17 and 15, were raped by four Rapid Support Forces soldiers in a village in eastern Al-Jazeera. The next morning, the neighbors found them, and signs of sexual assault were clearly visible on their bodies.

Rape of a displaced woman:
A group of rebel militia kidnapped a woman from the city of Al-Hasaheisa in Al-Jazeera State and detained her in one of the city’s peripheral houses, which they had taken as a base. They held her for 5 consecutive days during which she was subjected to gang rape by Rapid Support Forces soldiers. They then threw her out of the house, where some citizens found her in a deplorable state of exhaustion and fatigue, with her physical and psychological condition being extremely deteriorated. In the same manner, some militia members gathered 40 women and girls in a single house in one of the villages in East Al-Jazeera for 4 days, during which they were gang-raped.
A painful example:
Among the painful examples is the act of three members of the Rapid Support Forces raping a woman in front of her husband after threatening him with a weapon, forcing him to watch them rape his wife as a form of humiliation, not only for this husband but for all other men. They also aim to instill fear in the hearts of the residents to force them to evacuate their areas and villages. And there are large numbers of girls in the Al-Jazirah state who were forcibly married to Rapid Support Forces soldiers, in addition to cases of sexual slavery and the abduction of many girls in Madani.
Suicide cases:
Confirmed information revealed that three girls from one of the villages in the island committed suicide after being raped by a group of militia members, two of them from the village of Al-Sireha and the third from the city of Al-Rufaa. The sister of the girl who committed suicide in the village of Al-Sireha said, “My sister committed suicide after being raped by the Rapid Support Forces soldiers in front of her father and brother, who were killed by the same soldiers after the rape!”
Ten militia soldiers stormed one of the houses in a village in the island at night under the pretext of searching for army soldiers, but instead, they raped the mother and her three daughters. The mother refused to leave the house with her daughters, saying according to the BBC: “What will happen to me and my daughters more than the gang rape we were subjected to…” We will not leave our home.
And there is a case of rape in the city of Arab involving a 38-year-old mother and her two underage daughters, all three of whom were raped by militia members inside their home. According to eyewitnesses, there is another painful and distressing case of rape that occurred in the city of Al-Hasahisa, where a group of Rapid Support Forces members stormed the home of a woman who sells tea in the city’s market. She is originally a displaced person from Khartoum. They were searching for something valuable to steal, and when they couldn’t find anything, they raped her underage daughter, who is not yet 17 years old.
Conflicting numbers:
There is a discrepancy in the number of women who have been raped by the Rapid Support Forces militia. The human rights organization (Mashad) reported in its report 4,680 cases of rape in Sudan since the outbreak of the war, including 417 minors and 4 girls aged between 5 and 15 years. On the other hand, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement the documentation of 500 cases of rape and sexual slavery committed by the rebellious Rapid Support Forces militia against women and girls in the areas they occupied. However, some activists in the field of women’s protection believe that the number is much higher, pointing out that there are hundreds of unreported cases due to stigma, as they put it.
UN experts expressed their discontent and concern regarding the crimes of rape, sexual and gang assaults, forced prostitution, slavery, and the sale of girls in slave markets in Chad, which began in April 2023. On her part, Hala Al-Karb, the regional coordinator of the Strategic Initiative for Women of the Horn of Africa (SAY), indicated the documentation of 250 cases of rape and sexual violence across Sudan, including 75 cases documented in Al-Jazeera State by the Rapid Support Forces. Of course, the number from the Strategic Initiative is very modest, being many times less than the mentioned figure. We note that we have not yet documented the rape crimes in Darfur, which will be provided later, and they are more tragic.
