Resumption of Oil Production in South Sudan

Sudan Events – Agencies
The Director-General of the Oil Authority in South Sudan, Kon John Akot, announced the official resumption of oil production in Blocks 3 and 7 starting from December 30, 2024.
A letter received by AFP on Tuesday was addressed to the head of Dar Petroleum Operating Company, a member of the consortium managing oil production in South Sudan, urging the company to expedite the announcement of plans to resume production.
The oil sector contributes 90% of South Sudan’s revenue, and the suspension had exacerbated the country’s economic crisis, negatively affecting inflation rates and the local currency’s value.
AFP could not independently verify whether production had resumed, as a separate letter from December 23 indicated unresolved issues before resuming production and emphasized the need for further discussions. The letter stated that once these issues were satisfactorily addressed, a final date for the resumption of operations could be set and approved.
