Sudan and Egypt Discuss Plans for the Implementation of the Second Phase of Power Grid Connection

The Sudanese Minister of Energy and Oil, Dr. Mohieddin Naeem Mohamed Saeed, met with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital in Cairo.
The meeting was attended by several Egyptian deputy ministers and assistants, alongside Omar Al-Farouq Saeed Kamel, Deputy Head of Sudan’s diplomatic mission to Egypt.
The discussions revolved around the ongoing cooperation in energy sectors and the mechanisms for completing the second phase of the electricity interconnection project.
The meeting explored new opportunities to strengthen the partnership between the two nations in the energy sector. It covered updates on the implementation of the second phase of the power grid connection, the necessary procedures for installing its components, and programs to enhance technical and vocational training for employees in the electricity sector. Additionally, the exchange of expertise aimed at improving the efficiency of electrical systems and modernizing infrastructure was discussed, alongside future projects in energy, expanding renewable energy usage, improving transmission and distribution networks, and sharing experiences in wind and solar power generation.
The Sudanese Minister of Energy and Oil commended the deep-rooted Sudanese-Egyptian relations, emphasizing the competence of the electricity sectors in both countries in supporting mutual development efforts and strengthening the partnership.
For his part, the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy stressed the importance of regional integration in the electricity and energy sector, sharing expertise in renewable energy, and maximizing the use of natural resources as key elements of the strategic plan. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to fostering cooperation with Sudan as part of joint efforts to ensure energy security in the region, develop energy infrastructure, promote renewable energy usage, achieve environmental sustainability, and reduce dependence on traditional energy sources. The minister also praised the strong ties between Egypt and Sudan and highlighted Egypt’s continued provision of training programs for Sudanese personnel in line with the latest global technologies in electricity and energy.
