Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that the rumors circulating on social media about the state’s intention to sell land to neighboring countries to cover military expenditure are entirely unfounded and lack credibility.
The Ministry stressed that the circulating statement is fabricated and contradicts the statements of Minister Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, who has consistently affirmed in all his statements the commitment to the budget approved by the Cabinet, focusing on mobilizing domestic resources and allocating funds to priorities such as increasing spending on military efforts and fulfilling the obligations of the armed forces to protect Sudan’s sovereignty and security.
The Ministry also pointed out that the budget commits to increasing spending on health, education, electricity, workers’ compensations, pensions, social protection networks, and humanitarian aid for displaced persons and refugees in neighboring countries, as well as ensuring the provision of essential goods and services to citizens.
The Ministry confirmed that there are no new taxes or fees in the budget, which will primarily focus on enhancing domestic revenue, improving collection efficiency using technological systems as part of the state’s move toward digital transformation. It also emphasized tightening customs exemptions to only cover mandatory exemptions stipulated by law and continued efforts to enhance the role of financial oversight bodies and uphold the rule of law.
The Ministry clarified that the Minister’s statements are made through the official media channels of the Ministry of Finance and government media outlets, urging the public to rely on these channels for accurate information.
